The best way to visit is by walking around in the Vieux-Quebec (Old Quebec), where you'll discover many small and interesting shops, sell from local foods, antiques, souvenirs, arts, clothes, etc. You'll also find and be able to meet some of the local artists set up in the streets to sell their wares. They have paintings and assorted art hung on the outside walls of buildings and intricate unique jewellery in small tents. The narrow cobble stones lanes will take you to many historical buildings and sites, most of which have plaques by the front door where you can read a brief history of that particular monument. The Chateau Frontenac sits high and proud by the Fleuve Saint-Laurent amid the Vieux-Quebec. This large and impressive castle can be seen from almost anywhere. The Plaines D'Abrahams is a large park. Part of this park is where you''ll find the garden of Jeanne-D'arc, a flower garden, also you can visit the Citadelle, a Martello Tower, a few museums and all this surrounded by grass and trees by the water.

Many of the old city walls can be photographed. They are still attached to the Citadelle, but you can walk up to most of the towers. It's a great place to take pictures. To learn in more details of the history of Quebec and of Canada in general, there are some permanent exhibits at the Musee de la Civilisations, situated close to the old port, and also the Musee de L'Amerique du nord in the middle of the Vieux-Quebec. (see travel tips for more info) If you visit at the beginning of August you'll be just in time for the Festival "Les Fetes de la Nouvelle-France". They have many free outside shows, activities and parades. Also from the end of July to the middle of August, you can assist to the international Fireworks shows. It is just outside the city and you can get affordable transportation. Just get the information at the information booth or look in my travel tips.

There are many hotels and bed & breakfast in the Vieux-Quebec, but do make your reservations in advance as it can be very costly at the last minute. Especially since when you are staying in the Vieux-Quebec you can walk everywhere without the need of transportation, except for the airport which is about 1/2 drive from there. (see travel tips for hotel info)
