Thanks for your comments on my Kirkjubøur report. I am sure you would like it there but I don't know how accessible it is from Germany - via Copenhagen I should think.
I can't pretend it would be a cheap holiday - we were so lucky not having to pay for accommodation.
I wonder whether the Smyril Line boat form Denmark with a car packed with food would be a possibility?
You have to try a slot canyon sometime! We're going back to Zion National Park in Sept to hike a canyon called The Narrows. You hike in the river and in some places the walls of the canyon are 1000 feet high and only 8 feet wide.
Loved your picture of the chair swing...reminds me a bit of Oktoberfest. We lived in the Allgaeu for a year and really loved it. Of course, the hiking was great and we miss it. Would love to come to the Rheinland someday, too. So many wonderful places to visit!

Christian,
I was setting up camp when I took that shot. I looked over and there it was. John is 14 and he was standing in absolute silence watching the changing colors. He didn't realize I even took the picture until later that night while we were reviewing the shots of the day.

Christian,
I deleted the posting because I decided I was being whiny. I never want to discourage any one from posting but I have suffered the frustration of having someone post hoards of pics more than once. Personally I find that limiting myself to a certain number forces me to edit and chose carefully what I do post.
I hope you enjoyed Mountain View - that is so close to San Jose! Next time give me a shout and we can enjoy dinner!
Big Sur has been hit hard by the fires, as have a number of other areas. I keep reminding myself that these are naturally occurring and a part of nature, but I love California's wilderness. As much as I enjoy other places, I still love to hike these mountains the most! Guess I am just a California girl.
Greeting back at you! It was nice to see you online today!

Hallo Christian,
I spent more than an afternoon at that beach!
We stayed in Tulum for a week, had a cabana right on the beach and just took it easy.
I don't usually go for beach holidays, but I was in need of some relaxation after a stressful year and this was perfect - no phones, no television, no computers. And I wanted some sunshine - England had a miserable summer last year. It did take some time to get used to the heat, I normally only get that on the London Underground! ;-)
We did go on some day trips though and when the week was up we travelled on to Chichen Itza, Valladolid and Isla Mujeres.
Thanks for reading my report on New York. It is really a cool place to visit but I haven’t been there in the last few years; hence the information is a little sketchy.
This is a different trip than my other destinations as I tend to stay with family and friends so I can't comment on the hotel situation this time.

Hi Christian
Thanks for your comment on my report. Although I have good, if vague, memories of Koblenz, I do agree that it's those valleys with their hills, villages, castles and vineyards that took me back for further visits.
It's a good co-incidence that a beautiful photo of the Mosel valley appears on your profile page today. I shall look forward to that report!
Cheers
David
