Communist Architecture 2's by marianne

Prague - Czech Republic, Hlavni Mesto Praha Thousands of Communist-era flats were built out of socialist dogma and of economic necessity. They were prefabricated apartment buildings, paneláky, named after the concrete slabs that were used to build them. They were cheap and unimaginative, with plain exteriors and unadorned cement. These days many of them have been painted in bright colours. This is a street is in Kobylisy. I was struck by the juxtaposition of smaller houses and the block of apartments.

szidonia - Dec, 03 2007 08:12am You have right Marianne, very familiar view of ex-communist buldings. In my country there are even cities bulit for those purposes, very sad sights actually. Not even those small houses to show some contrast and a bit personality. In my hometown - luckily the center remained intact (16th century civic buildings and some old schools) but there are prefabricated apartment buildings at the north side of the town, too. The roads are ex-comunists, too :)
