Oslo always sounds a bit second rate in the guidebooks - presumably because it doesn't share the magnificent scenery of Norway's west coast. When you think of it a lot of places don't and Oslo certainly deserves to be very highly commended. You might actually like it better for not being overly touristic, other than with some spending a single night before 'starting'.
It's museums are tops. Just on the Bygdøy peninsula there are five, four of which are distinctively Norwegian; the mainly outdoor Folk Museum is at least as good as Stockholm's better known one and the Viking Ships, Fram and Kontiki museums are all unique. Then the Munch Museum, the Town Hall and the National Gallery can absorb a lot of time.
Then, where else can you see anything like the Vigeland Park with all those stone and bronze sculptures?
Leave time to travel to the terminus of Tunnelbahn 1 and walk down to the Skilift and the museum with a simulator. Then there's a trip round the islands and - -but no space! [edit text][editors]
