Bushfires

Posted: 2003-01-26 06:10 AM
Hi again.
Here at Geelong we are reasonably safe ( I hope ).
Although our water reserves are also pretty low, strangely enough we don't have any restictions as yet.
Our water mainly comes from Otway Ranges and there are some very productive bores.
It's different for people outside of town who don't have town water supply.
I have heard of some who have to have water carted to them.

Gippsland and the Vic. High Country have always been favoured areas for me and during summer many of my tours include those areas, guess it will be different for the next couple of years.

The fierceness of the fires is unimaginable, with embers landing 15 km ahead of the fire front and starting spotfires.

There is a cool change coming throug here now but it will be short lived with high 30's again forecast after a couple of days.

Just hear that another 16 houses have been destroyed this afternoon.

It's a worry!

Take care,
Mike.

G'day Kerrie,
just notice you online.
Are there any bushfires up in your area?

It's pretty bad down here in the High Country and Gippsland.
Damage and destruction so far must be close to that during the Black Friday fires in 1939.
Preying for rain,
Mike

Hello Kerrie,

you have very pictures, especially the photos from Latino America. My favorite is Sunset at Isla Mujeres from Yucatán.

Have a good one!

Kai
