Andersonville, Georgia was the site of one of the most infamous prison camps during the American Civil War. The prison camp has been saved as a National Monument and has a cemetery, walking trails, and a museum/visitor center. The nearby town has many buildings that have been restored, and is the site of craft fairs and re-enactment battles.
Favourite spots:
I enjoyed visiting the prison camp and watching the videos and strolling through the museum. It is easy to spend 3 or 4 hours in the visitors center.
What's really great:
Visiting Andersonville during the autumn re-enactment and festival was one of the more enjoyable times of my stay in Georgia. The battle was interesting, with re-enactors participating from throughout the United States.
