Brisbane is a beautiful river city, and is the capital city of Queensland. It has a wide meandering river through the centre that the city is based around. The transport in the city is excellent - freeways everywhere, ferries up and down the river, and a good city train system. Very modern and busy - good proximity to the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast as well as the Great Barrier Reef and Fraser Island. The weather is mild to warm - generally above 25 degrees in the summer and up to 20 degrees in the winter.
Favourite spots:
The river. The CBD is built inside a bend in the river. Southbank (the entertainment and play area of the city) is across the river from the CBD and has excellent cafes and Sunday markets.
What's really great:
The River Festival held in August/September each year. The fireworks and displays easily rival Sydney's New Year and Australia Day celebrations.
Sights:
The river is beautiful and one of the best ways to see things is to walk around along the various pathways or catch a ferry along the river.
Restaurants:
Excellent cafes along the river at Southbank. Eating out in the city is reasonably cheap and there is an excellent variety of nationalities and styles represented
