Budapest is the capital of Hungary. The Danube river splits the city in two: Buda and Pest. On the left bank of the river sits Buda and on the right side is Pest. Few tourists know it.

Budapest is a cosmopolitan city and one of Europe's most important capitals. Pest is the commercial centre with the Pariament and the Hungarian National Museum. The city has some very unusual museums. Margaret Island in the river, is a park with cafes, thermal baths, pool, gardens and fountains. It can be reached by bridges from both sides. If you fancy a relaxing soak, there are numerous Turkis baths in the city. To escape tha crowds and summer heat, head for the Buda Hills where there's hiking, biking and narrow gauge railway run by children.

The Parliament is the symbol of Hungary. It 's one of the biggest parliament buildings in the world. On the other side of the river you can see the Buda Royal Castle. This castle has a long history.
Buda has a long trading tradition. Its Jewish population were especially famous traders.

| What's really great: |
|
Matthias Church is the Church of Our Lady. It's popular name comes from King Matthias, who got married here twice and was the main donor. The Fischermen's Bastion is just behind Matthias Church , and it's a beautiful work. But the best part of it, is the great view you have from here. The monument and the city landscape were declared part of UNESCO 's World Heritage sites in 1988.

From the Castle District there's a nice view of the other river bank, where sits Pest. You can see here the most famous bridge in town: the Chain Bridge. Behind the bridge you can see St. Stephen's Basilica, the biggest in Budapest.

In the Castle District there's also the best Hilton Hotel in the world: the Budapest Hilton Hotel, with ruins of a Dominican cloister in one of its wings.

In the District there's also a casino, night clubs, cafeterias, pastry shops and restaurants.

|
The most elegant restaurant in the capital is Gundel which baers the name of the family thtat has become a legend in catering.

| Other recommendations: |
Funicular that goes to the Castle District, because cars are not allowed in District, this is the best way to get there.
The Medical Bath is the biggest in Europe, with two thermal springs that supply water at 74 and 77 Celsius degrees all year round. Thanks to this hot water, Széchenyi open air pool is open to the public even in winter.
