Incredible Experience in Buenos Aires, Argentina!

  11 votes
I love adventure and new experiences so I decided to fully throw myself into Argentinean culture by spending 6 months in Buenos Aires, Argentina. To say the least, I learned a lot. I grew as a person, tried new foods, met new people and practiced spanish!

During my 6 month stay I worked at FundaciĆ³n Ciclo, building international connections between the foundation and others by searching for and contacting various organizations through the world wide web. On certain days I taught English classes, which was so much fun. All of my students were really sweet and eager to learn. The Foundation provided me with low cost housing as well as a small monthly stipend to help me out with minimal expenses. What was really cool is that the Foundation also gave us the option to live with an Argentine family! If you want to check it out go to www.ciclobsas.com or you can e-mail elam@ciclobsas.com, (You can even tell them that I told you about it!)

Favourite spots:
La Chicha- amazing restaurant with great food, atmosphere and excellent service. You will definitely leave there satisfied! El Abuelo- amazing place to satisfy all your sugary baked good cravings...everythig is freshly baked and absolutely delicious....what makes it worse is that they deliver to the house! So you have no excuse not to buy something Arezzo- The calzones (which are NOT like american calzones) are soooo goood....basically at this restaurant, it is pizza that is filled with something...depends on what you order but hmm de-lishhhh-usss!

What's really great:
What was the best part was that I lived in Ramos Mejia, which is a suburb of Buenos Aires (in La Provincia). During the day, the streets are bustling with people going off to work, filling the trains, buses and streets. Living in Ramos really allowed me to integrate myself (no one spoke English..except for the common Hello) thus I was forced to speak Spanish which was great. The only way to become fluent is to speak the target language all the time. The people of Ramos are sooo nice and sweet. They were always curious to know where I was from and why I was living there.

Accommodations:
I lived in this quaint part of Ramos, where there was a fruit shop right across the street (I could buy bananas and apples etc. every morning).

There was also a pizza place across the street that has the best empanadas ever...my housemates and I ordered so often that the pizza guys knew where we lived without us even giving the address (Oh, the girls from across the street? We will deliver in a few minutes)

My housing was provided by the FundaciĆ³n CICLO (the CICLO Foundation) at a low monthly cost. It was great to have this option because I was able to use the left over money on other things like sight seeing, theater shows and restaurants. The Foundation also offered its interns housing with an Argentinean family (for those who really wanted to stay immersed in the language the whole time).

This sounds interesting and it was certainly a great opportunity - but it would be better if you provided SOME general information about the city as well - and some photos.
