In this place I am a symbol of their past. I came with a little fear and a big longing for the place once part of my country, now already a new nation --- Then, I came home missing it a whole lot more.
the beach by the road
Desperation is romantic. What can I say, this is the place where hopes and daunts take turns constantly. I have the mellow mood and the slow-motion eyes. Everything doesn't look that optimist, but there is enormous beauty just underneath the thin layers.
Favourite spots:
The road by the beach, where kids playing football just near sunset. When the place turned into sand-storm by their kicking feet.
What's really great:
Just being there. The sounds of children choir melting with the singing of the leaves and the sea.
Accommodations:
Hotel Turismo, Dili. But there had been plenty of hotels developed for the past two years, so you will have plenty of choices. Hotel Turismo is a jurno spot, most journalists stay here during turmoil era of East Timor.
Restaurants:
City Cafe -- i hope it's still there, because i didn't see any East Timorese eating there. You can see plenty of expats and UN workers dining here.
Other recommendations:
The beach across Hotel Turismo, all the hallmark of Dili in one spot.
