GRASKOP - IDEAL SPOT

  6 votes

It is a tranquil town situated high in the hills of Mpumalanga (place where the sun rises). With no heavy industries - it has a real neat village atmosphere... where the air is crisp and fresh. Graskop is ideally located to explore all the other sites including Pilgrims Rest and the world famous game reserve Kruger Park.

Favourite spots:
When there we stayed at Elbereth House. There are a couple of nice restaurants - specialising in pancakes - try Harries. Went to a spot on the one river where we could jump off the rocks into a deep, clear pool.

What's really great:
The mist that blankets the town sometimes. A real nice hike that takes you up to a place called Fairyland. You have to see it!! Many nice spots to stop off along the way too.

Sights:
Gods Window and Wonderview - see forever and further.... Also visit the waterfalls - Lisbon and Berlin - are close to town. On the other side take a drive to Maria Shires waterfall and Forest Falls. Mac MAc pools and waterfall are further along and worth the stop.

Accommodations:
There are many types of accomodation, we chose self catering - ELBERETH HOUSE. It is an early turn of the 20th century house, fully kitted and serviced and had 3 double bedrooms. For the time you are there it is your place in the mountains and it easily accomodated all 8 of us. For detail phone +013-767-1626 if you phone from out of the country drop the '0' and add the rest of the code up-front. The one room had a brilliant view of the mountains.

Other recommendations:
Bourkes Luck Potholes & Blyde River Canyon. Make sure you visit the old mining town - Pilgrims Rest
