They may not be natural ,but thank whomever you will, that they are there. Durban is a hectic urban sprawl but the surfing is made a little more relaxed with the knowledge that the nets are there.
There are many interesting places to go see and interesting tings to do in Durban but being a surfer, all things nauticle was the order of the stay. Your first stop must be the aquarium here you find out exactly what your swimming with when you paddle out there. Then just get wet.
Favourite spots:
The sea !!! Boardshort and only boardshrts required is such a fantastic feeling after being encased in rubber mitts, hood, and booties for your usuall session. Get out there if you dont know where to go just ask, the surfers here are so stoked you came to there country they will give you all the info you need and a place to stay if its needed. Awesome people.
What's really great:
The ambiance in the water for a city was one of the easiest to enjoy that ive ever encountered , especially in comparison to the macho crap of brazil.
Sights:
Get in touch with the Natal Shark Board at the aquarium and you can make arangements to go and check the nets with them when they do there rounds of a morning.
Accommodations:
Plenty of Backpackers hostels use the usual links pages.
Nightlife:
Chat with the guys in your Hostel as they know all the best places and can tell you which are safe and how best to get to them.
Other recommendations:
At the end of it Durban is a city, if city surfing is watcha like kudos and heres a great place to do that. However my tastes are for something a little more rural. Surf here then get gone, there are so many Awesome places down the coast on your way to Jeffreys you will be spoilt for choice.
