The Gippsland Region is the warmest place in the Victorian state during winter and with a mild, temperate summer which makes this an ideal holiday destination.

Map - Gippsland Region
Located at the Gippsland Region where its lakes meet the Southern Ocean, it will take you about 4½ hours from Melbourne to drive here. Main Attractions are:- 1. Lakes Entrance There are 5 major rivers and the lakes area covers about 400 sq km with coastal lagoons, lakes and swamps. Being renowned as a ‘Seafood Capital’, make a stop at the Lakes Entrance Fishermen Co_Op to purchase fresh catch from the sea. Fishing, swimming and hiking are the most popular activities here. Go on and explore the Ninety Mile Beach or take a hike to the entrance of the Gippsland lakes. At Jemmy’s Point Lookout, you have sprawling views across the town, the entrance and the lakes. If you wish to work on your tan, head on down to the scenic Lake Tyers. 2. Metung Famed for being a boating, aquatic and sporting haven, this small village sits on the tranquil waters of the Gippsland Lakes, is surrounded by green hills and sandy beaches allows any holiday makers to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. The bay bustles with boats on one side whilst the other side forms part of the Lakes National Park. Drop in at the Yacht Club and engage in sporting activities like bowling, tennis and billiards. If you wish to simply relax, go fishing or take a stroll along the beach or bay or watch the pelicans take flight (and get reminded of the movie “Finding Nemo”). 3. Marlo Known as the gateway to Victoria’s Wilderness Coast, this is where the famous Snowy River berths. All water sports such as yachting, wind surfing, canoeing, rafting and skiing can be enjoyed in this tranquil and picturesque holiday fishing village. From here you can explore the Snowy River and Mountains, 90 mile beach, fabulous waterways, and lakes. You can also discover the natural beauty of the Cape Conran Coastal Park, fish at the jetty and river banks for Garfish, Bream, Mullet, Estuary Perch, and Luderick or at the ocean for salmon, falthead and gummy shark.

Favourite spots:
Lake Tyers Beach

1. Ninety Mile Beach – which starts at Seaspray and continues until Lakes Entrance, is made up of long sandy dunes that separates the various lagoons and lakes from the ocean. 2. Gippsland Lakes – boasts the most exclusive waterways in Australia and with the longest silt jetties in the world 3. Lake Tyers – a perfect place to discover the ocean, lakes and every fisherman’s haven 4. Buchan Caves - Victoria’s largest and one of Australia’s best caves. Explore the 400 metres long ‘Fairy Cave’.

What's really great:
Snowy River
Snowy River
Snowy River National Park This park features some magnificent river scenery, spectacular deep gorges, and forests of Grey Glum, Alpine Ash and Native Pine. This is also the best canoe-launching place for adventurers wanting to explore the gorges downstream. The Snowy River offers thrilling canoeing or rafting with rugged gorges, rapids, flat sections with sand bars (ideal for camping) and beautiful scenery. Why not fish for trout here or embark on a 18 km hike on the Silver Mine Walking Track. Take a bush walk at the Moresford Track or drive the 43 km four-wheel drive track.

Interesting report, dear Gloria, all the more so as I love Australia which is is one of the closest big countries from Polynesia (which consist of tiny islands scattered in the inmensity of the huge Pacific Ocean).
