Most of the cities, towns and villages in Auvergne have been built with the black rocks (lava) from the chain of old volcanoes which consist Auvergne. Le Puy has been built this way, but also has a touch of terra-cotta, the roofs are all tiled with it. The dark sierra color greets you as you enter the city.

| Favourite spots: |

Two unusual spurt of lava will catch your attention. They are abrupt hills scattered here and there in the town. First the Rocher Corneille, which you can climb(20f),has at it's summit a brick red Statue of the Virgin and Child. It has been built that color to match the tiled roofs below. The Rocher d'Aiguilhe, close by, has at its summit the Chuch of St-Michel.

Climbing up the Rocher Corneille, 130 Meters high, you'll see the maze of the street below. You can actually get in the statue of the Virgin and Child. A small round metal staircase will take you up to inside the head itself. Picture are difficult to take from inside the statue though, as it is very narrow.

At the foot of Rocher Corneille is situated the old town. One can visit the Cathedral Notre Dame de France. The spires, built in the 11th century, are decorated with layers of colorful mosaic.

Also in the old town, one can visit the Fever Stone. It is said that it has the power to cure fevers.
