Andorra is a tiny country set in the valley of Pyrenees, situated between Spain and France. The Andorran frontier with France is 37 km long, and with Spain, 64 km. Andorra is a Principality, and was founded in the 13th century. It is a mountainous country, with 65 peaks above 2,500 m. Today, its main activity is dedicated to tourism: you can enjoy fantastic ski slopes in winter, trekking in spring/summer, go to the famous spa called Caldea throughout the year or simply enjoy the beautiful scenery and fresh air. Andorra has the largest skiable area in the Pyrenees, with the best snow quality throughout the season (usually from late October to beginning of May). You can easily access Andorra by road, either from Spain or France, since the country is so small, and there are no airports or railroads. The official language of Andorra is Catalan, but French and Spanish are also widely spoken.

The most beautiful part of Andorra for me is the village of Canillo and the mountains around Soldeu and Ordino. There are also a lot of small medieval churches, stone bridges, streams….all over the country, and you can just stop by the road and take a path to enjoy walking in the nature. The best way to see the country is to go by car, although be warned that there are heavy congestions, especially in the capital town of Andorra La Vella. Avoid the rush hours at any cost, you may be stuck for hours in the city.

Andorra is a perfect place if you want to escape for the weekend, find some tranquility or do some sports. The ski slopes are amazing, and the views of the mountains covered with snow are very inspiring. Also, Caldea is a water paradise, where you can get all kinds of water activities, massage, sauna or anything you may think of. You can even enjoy the views of Andorra while you are taking a bath in the hot pool outside.

| Accommodations: |

Being a tourist country as it is, Andorra has a huge range of accommodation possibilities. Hotels are all over the place. My preference would be a hotel/apartment away from the capital, as it can get noisy and busy in the downtown. You can find lots of hotels close to the ski slopes, and have beautiful views around, breathe fresh air and so avoid the traffic jams. I would recommend villages of Ordino or Soldeu, towards the French border. If you want to do shopping, then Andorra La Vella or Escaldes is an option for you.

| Other recommendations: |
Meritxell Sanctuary, El Serrat, Soldeu...Lots of nice lakes and places for trekking.
The country is a special tax-free zone, so you can find some things quite cheaper than in other European countries, especially technical stuff and perfumes.
