Riyadh is the capital of Saudi Arabia. In my travels there I noticed a rather oppressive muslim culture. Out of all of the USA friendly arab nations, Saudi Arabia is the most restrictive. Women have almost no rights and outsiders are meet with untrusting stares. The women are required to wear habiyah's. An all black sheet looking thing that covers the entire body. I could not imagine how fun those are to wear in the summertime.
Favourite spots:
I enjoyed the gold market where you can barter anyting you see. Most of the shopkeepers are not Saudi and are very friendly.
What's really great:
Nothing really, but driving in Riyadh will definately make you find religion quickly.
Sights:
There is a large building that has a hole in it and is lit up at night, it looks real neat. Also, there are numerous water towers that are decorated throughout the city.
Accommodations:
I stayed with a friend in a westernized compound
Nightlife:
none. there is no alcohol allowed in the country
Hangouts:
none, no alcohol
Restaurants:
I ate at The Turkish Restaurant (actual name of place). It is the greatest. I also ate at The Steakhouse. The steaks were real good.
Other recommendations:
Chop Chop square. Place where justice is done (Cutting off hands and heads)
