Cambodia's main port town, and also the one place in Cambodia somewhat reknown for it's beaches. About a three hours bussing it from Phnom Penh, or alternatively one can arrive from the Koh Kong border crossing with Thailand by boat.
Favourite spots:
Victory beach - not the nicest beach in town, but far less crowded than places like Occheuteal, which left far too little space for me to enjoy it.
What's really great:
The old Frenchman who ran the bungalow place we ended up at - amazingly friendly and insightful, he as well as his Cambodian wife and the rest of the restaurant staff.
Sights:
Beaches. There's not much else to see in Sihanoukville than it's beaches.
Accommodations:
We arrived late, got down to Occheuteal beach to find that most accommodations were either super expensive or full, spent a night in a nameless family run bunker shaped guesthouse for $5 - windowless and ugly. Moved to Bungalow Village at Weather Station Hill (where it seems most quality, cheap accommodation is, slightly further walk down to sea though) - most cabins were full, so ended up with a slightly luxurious $10 bungalow which was excellent and with great sea views.
Nightlife:
Have no idea. Saw a couple of casinos right beneath Weather Station Hill along the Victory beach road.
Hangouts:
Don't think pubs in the traditional definition exists, but you can always get a drink.
Restaurants:
Mostly ate at the guesthouse, due to exceptional service. Some very cosy cafes for icecream or a cold drink in the town centre - non really recommendable above others, and all situated along the main street.
