City of Hospitality

Few cities in the world have been attacked and invaded like Stettin and yet the folk calm and hospital to foreigners. Gateway to Poland and the Baltic Coast.

Cemetry of War Victims
Cemetry of War Victims
Stettin, or Szczecin to the locals, has also been ruled by Slavs, Germans (3x), Danes, Swedes, Prussians, even the French (Napoleon) and, quasi, the Soviets. The polish people have now won it back for good, proud of their city and wonderful surroundings.

Favourite spots:
Flea Market
Flea Market
- the River Odra(Oder) and its boats and harbour - the well flowered parks

- the russian flea market, everything legal or elegal at dump prices! Beware though, the german border has a new campaign against pirated (falsed) design clothing and media.

What's really great:
WarMemorial at Stettin
WarMemorial at Stettin
The cemetry and war memorial is so huge that it well symbolises the amount of suffering the people have gone through.

Sights:
Panorama over Stettin from Church Tower
Panorama over Stettin from Church Tower
A wonderfull viewing platform over the city is the tower of the Pommeran Church (Pomorskich).

Accommodations:
New Radisson Hotel
New Radisson Hotel
One sees very few tourists and therefore few hotels. Hostels and guest houses provide extra income for some families and are more common. Tourist places are more common on the coast, about 80km away. A huge new Maddison Hotel therefore welcomes many.

Other recommendations:
Pier at Swinemunde
Pier at Swinemunde
Only 80km down river are the picturesque "amber" (berndstein)beaches and the river delta at Swinemunde (Swinoujscie). The area is infamous for german rocket tests during WW2.
