Surfers Paradise is what I call the Las Vegas of Australia. From Casinos to numerous hotels/condos and tourists enjoying either the restaurants or the many activities including bungee jumping, snow and ice sculptures or mini putt, Surfers Paradise has it all.
Favourite spots:
Ripleys's Believe it or not Museum can be found in many different cities around the world. It's always a lot of fun so I make a sure to stop in. It amuses and impresses me at the same time to see footballers made out of bubble gum wrappers and dressed up flies.
What's really great:
Of course, the beach is on the Gold Coast, and therefore it is an Eden for surfers and bathers alike. The sand is golden, and the Pacific water is warm and of the clearest azure.
Sights:
Dreamworld is only a few kilometers North of Surfers Paradise. It has numerous rides, including rollercosters. You can relax in an airconditionned Imax movie theater, or visit the zoo where you'll see koalas (and can be photographed with one) peacocks, wallabies, white tigers and and many other animals. Don't forget take a ride on the Captain Sturt Paddle Wheeler which stops along the way to show a funny play with bushrangers

What many people don't know is the history of Surfers Paradise. The aboriginals used to call it Krurungul, which was associated with the large amount of the perfect trees used to make strong boomerangs. The area was first populated aboginals, but timber cutters soon settled and took over the land which held a great amount of cedars and pines. It was then called Meyers Ferry. After the rush for the timber ebbed, it w as a certain Mr Meyer who built the first hotel, which then became a resort. Upon his death, they renamed the city Surfers Paradise.
