Sydney - home from home

I'm still on loan here from Prestatyn, but I haven't got bored of Australia - and specifically Sydney - yet! And working here is more fun than in London because the beach is more important than staying late trying to look busy!

Favourite spots:

Its almost embarrasingly cliche, but after 2 years here I still get lost, mesmorised and awestruck by Circular Quay - not just for the sight of the Orange Peel House and Coat Hanger, but for the combination of energy and tranquility that the bridge, water, ferries and street performers bring to the place.
Beyond that, Manly beach is much nicer than it's more famous cousin Bondi, and is also easier to get to with ferries running there every 30 minutes. But if you have a car, the patience to catch the slow bus or even the money to charter a flying boat, my favourite beach is about 15miles north - Palm Beach. Here the lighthouse on the point seperates the crashing waves of the sea on one side from the tranquil waters of the estuary on the other. It's also where they film Home & Away, but don't let put you off.

What's really great:
When the Aussies lose at sport, and blurt out a string of 'it wasn't my fault' excuses - that's fairly special...!

Sights:

The bridge and opera house are too obvious, so I'll say the view from Centre Point or Lady Macquaries Chair. Centre Point because not only is the view is magnificent - sweeping from the harbour to the Blue Mountains - but most people don't expect it to be any good!
Lady Macquarie's chair is at the other end of the Botanical Gardens from the Opera House, but from there you can look back and see it framed by the arches of the bridge. In summer they also have an open-air cinema here, where the screen rises up from the water...

Hangouts:
Any pub in The Rocks will give you a good time - plus Scruffy Murphy's on George St for when you need to watch the Premier League football at 6am with a beer and a fry up..!
For somewhere more trendy, head to the Cargo Bar in Darling Harbour, or for somewhere fun try the retro sounds of The Bristol Arms with it's different decade on every floor...!

Restaurants:
The seafood here is good - wherever you go

A nice report about Sydney, but adding some pictures will surely improve this report. I shall remember Palm Beach when I go there again in January.
