Here are a few good and - as a rule - inexpensive eating places in Ubud, Central Bali. I last went there in Nov. 2003, so things may have changed occasionally.
Worthwhile restaurants in Ubud Bali Buddha, opposite Post Office; rel. expensive, health food (good bread at reasonable prices) Bali Pesto, Monkey F. road (expensive, good: Spaghetti marinera Bali) Baliku (!), Jl. Hanuman, immediately before fork to Monkey F. road Bumbu (Indian !) Dewa Warung (cheap, good, simple food) Dirty Duck, Jl. Hanuman, before fork to Monkey F. road Gayatri, upper Monkey F. road (inexpensive; red bean soup; potato salad, daily paper) Hans Snel (! – romantic atmosphere), Jl. Kajeng Makanan Padang, right-hand side way down Monkey F. road, concealed entrance Murni, at Campuan bridge River View, Jl. Raya, diagonally across Casa Luna next to Jap. restaurant; picturesque setting (huts), cheap Rumah Roda (!! – and cheap), up Jl. Kajeng right-hand side; good for sun-setting views. Bebek betutu, buffet Shortly before Rumah Roda small, unpretentious restaurant TamaS, Monkey F. road, right-hand side shortly behind sports ground, rather expensive but excellent & unusual food !! Warung Wahyu, Monkey F. road, far side of sports ground (!! – and cheap) Nasi Campur in small shop opposite Roda Internet Cafe, Jl. Bisma (very simple, cheap lunch on schooldays only), actually meant for pupils of nearby school. Street food (evenings only) Martabak Stand, evenings only, 5000 Rp., Jl. Raya, shortly behind Highway Internet Cafe, right-hand side Fish saté, Jl. Raya, opposite Martabak Stand (6 sticks 2000 Rp.) Nasi Campur, Jl. Favourite spots:
Rumah Roda because of the sunset view and the excellent but cheap buffet. Warung Wahyu because of the friendly atmosphere and the great food. TamaS because of the unusual, imaginative, excellent dishes.

Ubud in general is a fantastic place with lots of landscape, museums, and cheap accomodation. And it's a central starting point for trips to all other regions in Bali.
