Hola Eire!

I am glad that you are interested in Buddhism.
I also travelled to Ajanta and Ellora, a thrilling place. A friend of mine gave the name of Ajanta to her daughter after visiting the place.

Nirvana in Sanskrit means “extinguishing”, or the cessation of ignorance and the union with the Truth. It is a transcendent state of enlightenment achieved by Buddha (harmony, stability, joy…) that the Buddhist monks aspire to attain.
Regarding the inclined Buddha, I guess that you mean the cave number 26. The about 7 metres statue of the sleeping Buddha (the last one, Sakyamuni, no the future one Maitreya) depicts his physical death in a pose called Paranirvana (Final Nirvana). When he was about to die, at 80 years old, in Kushinagar, India, close to the Nepalese border, he adopted that reclining posture, lied, with his right hand supporting his head and the left resting on his body. Then he entered Nirvana and expired.

Thanks for making remembering me all this that I almost forgot.

Skeleton Coast

Posted: 2006-10-06 04:04 AM
Eire,

I was on the Skeleton Coast in Namibia; it was amazing to see so much sand and the quadbiking was brilliant, up and down the dunes as serious speeds. Well not so serious as they were just automatic bikes. I always say you should try most things a least once in a lifetime - some of the women in my group weren't too thrilled but I loved it.

I'm hoping to write a report soon, so I can fill you in.

Take care

Hey....

Nice to hear from you; are you still re-living the euphoria of your trip? I’m struggling to hang on to mine. Four days at work and the feeling is starting to drain away… Oh well.

But I did have a fantastic time, from start to finish. However for me Vic Falls was a little anticlimactic; you see it is dry season so the waters are low and much of the river bed was dry (I’ll post a picture for you to see). I hiked across which made it enjoyable, but what this now means is that I will have to go back to see it in all its glory. - Bummer.....

Take care

Amanda
