Plane crash in Central Asia

Posted: 2008-08-25 05:28 AM
Hi Amanda,

In July, there was an explosion at an arms depot in the Bukhara region, but still rather far from the city.

On 24 August, one week after I took off, there was a plane crash at the Bishkek's Manas International Airport. It was a 1979 Boeing 737 aircraft of Itek Air taking off to Mashhad in Iran. It killed 65 of its 123 passengers.

I knew about the several black listed airlines of Central Asia (Itak Air is banned from the EU, and so are the several Kyrgyz airlines), but I was safe on my bmi's 757 plane.

It is always horrific when a plane crashes.

Best regards,
Krys

Great time

Hi Amanda,

Thanks for your comments, I really enjoyed a lot the countries. They were fabulous - all three. But I liked the most Kotor in Montenegro and Mostar in Bosnia. Both of them were really magical. In Mostar I came at 5 am so I watched how the city is waking up. You have been in Mostar so you can imagine how lovely this city could be without thousands of people.
In Montenegro I rented a car so I could see more remote places. I had great time there.
An what was your favourite place ?

Take care

impler times

Thank you Amanda for your kind words. This place has been very dear to Denise and me for forty two years. Despite the fact that the pine forest has been harvested and regrown in this area, little seems to have changed in the way of life but the farming econoy I know is easier now.
This man however still seems very happy herding his sheep as my father did for a living.

White Desert

Amanda,
Thank you for your comments on my report. It was a difficult one to write because we didn't see a bunch of sites. Instead we experienced the desert. Hope I get to go again!

a lot of luck

Hi Amanda,
I completely agree with you. I had a lot of luck, I really almost had this ticket. I was shocked when only two days after ticket failure the war has started.
Croatia or Dubrovnik because I was only there was stunning. Now I understand why people love this city.

Greetings from Montenegro

Hi Amanda.
Thanks for the message. I am delighted with the award. It's not why we write but it's good to know when your efforts give pleasure.
My next trip will be to Central Portugal at the end of September -what about you?
Cheers
David
