Antique rose emporium

Posted: 2006-04-13 01:58 PM
Thanks for your kind words on my pictures from the rose emporium. I'm really not sure about what kind the daisies are and whether they are imported.

The antique rose emporium in Indpendence Tx is one of the most visited places in the region in spring. This is a giant exotic garden with varieties of roses and native plants, combined in a beautiful setting (Kitchen garden, water garden, childrens' garden..and the bottle tree are just beautiful)

I shall upload more pictures when time permits.
Warm Regards
Akhila

Legend No. 2 behind the Chinese Moon Cake Festival

Posted: 2006-03-27 03:56 AM
cont

So on every 15th day of the 8th lunar month, a moon bridge appears and connects earth to the moon. during this one night the couple are reunited.

Legend No. 2
During the Yuan dynasty (ie 1280AD) China was ruled by the Mongolians. In order to over throw the chinese and knowing that the Mid Autumnn Festival was near, the leaders of the rebellion ordered the making of special cakes. Baked into each moon cake was a message with informing about the intended attack. On the night of the Moon cake Festival, the rebels, indeed won as they took the mongolians by surprise.

There is another longer version of Legend No. 1. If you wish to hear that, I will be happy to email you the story.

Btw... if you wish to celebrate this festival, you should do it with the traditional lanterns that are lit with candles and of course, a box of moon cakes.

The moon cakes are actually pastry stuffed with various types of sweet or savoury fillings, sometimes containing the egg yolk.

The Legend No. 1 behind the Chinese Moon Cake Festival

hiya hugh

Here is the story behind the celebration of the moon cake festival.

The Chinese Moon Cake Festival or Mid- Autumn Festival takes place on the 15th day of the 8th Lunar month (chinese calendar). This originated in the Tang dynasty ie 618AD. There are many legends surrounding this festival and let me share them with you.

Legend No. 1
A famous architect built a beautiful jade palace for the Goddes of Heaven. She was so happy that she gave him an immortality pill. There was a condition attached to it, ie... he needed to accomplish a few things first before he got take it. However, his wife, a beautiful lady, found the pill and swallowed it, and of course she did not tell her husband. When the Goddess found out about it, she was so angry that she banished the wife to the moon and she can only be seen by her husband on the night of the bright harvest moon.

I see that you want to find out about the Mooncake Festival. That's when you celebrate the Harvest Moon and the end of the harvest. It happens on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. It's also called the Mid-Autumn Festival.

I hope this information helps.

Actually, my mom is from China and my dad is from Georgia (the state) so that makes me half Chinese. My mom knows a lot about Chinese festivals.

What is your festival like? I'd like to know.

Hugh

Thanks very much for your compliments about my recent sideshow. I'm trying to take better pictures of the island, but at present my favourite ones are of evening sunworshipers, because it brings back some wonderful memories.

Take care
Amanda
