Rio all the way...

Posted: 2008-03-13 10:45 PM
Hi ya,

Although I say Rio as it is a fantastic place, it is just imho a city/beach break - whilst a marvellous city - a city nonetheless which will be so different than exploring the likes of Oman or Azerbijan.

I am disappointed (re visa) yet excited of where in the world you could end up.

Happy travels

Amanda

Wow - welcome for your amazing contributions!

Hi Krys,
I have just spent the last couple of hours catching up on reports since my last login and 95% of these are yours. You are a prolific writer and traveller but I am curious have you already posted many of your reports elsewhere as the sheer volume of work is staggering. But I must admit I have enjoyed reading your work as you offer travellers info tempered by a good dash of humour and observation which is what I also try to do when I write. I just don't sem to have as much inspiration as you.
Cheers,
Kerrie

Dude, I need not travel

With so many reports and photographs you have graciously contributed, I can visit just about anywhere sitting at my computer which suits me fine since I won't be travelling for a while. Thank you.

catching up

Now I understand. I thought you had been doing all this traveling quite recently. I was one of those lucky ones: teacher (but now retired and even more time to travel)

Greetings from God's Own Country!

Hi Krzys,
Greetings from Kerala, India. I am Kris and old Globo member slowly making a comeback (activity wise) after a gap of nearly 2 years! The one thing I noticed on my return is your awesome profile, great reports and extraordinary photos. You are simply amazing. It will take me a while to get the hang of things here as there are some exceptionally talented members here now lead by YOU. I am so pleased to see the speed at which you are going up and wish you every success. The summit - 'The Mount Everest of GLOBO' at this rate will be conquered by you well before the end of 2008, I can easily see. Take care mate and carry on conquering!!
Cheers,

The most dangerous Road

Posted: 2008-03-10 02:38 PM
Hi Krzysztof,

Thanks for your comments. The road in Bolivia used to be called the most dangerous in the world for a lot of reasons. It starts from 4500 meters and ends at 1300 meters, and has 64 kilomteres. Almost all road is very narrow, only in several places cars could pass. When two came from opposite directions, one had to go back !!! Road was used by huge trucks and buses.
That caused a lot of accidents. Last serious was two years ago when a bus with 60 people fall down. Everybody died. After this accident gouvernement has opened new road, unfinished- but much safer.
I made this raod by bike, and I highly recomend :)))
Soon I will post more photos.

Take care
Rafal

Saxons

Posted: 2008-03-06 01:12 PM
German law guarantees citizenship to all those of German origin. Saxons were persecuted heavily in Romania after World War 2, so after the 1989 revolution they took the opportunity to swarm back to Germany. After 30 generations the unique Saxon culture has disapperaed!
So says my Rough Guide to Romania. I have not been to Romania yet, or spoken to any Saxons (If there are any left). Clearly more research (and cold beer) is called for!

Travel Writing.

Posted: 2008-03-05 02:51 PM
I agree that it would be nice to be able to squeeze more writing into the reports, but on the plus side it does help with acquiring the skill to edit reports down to the required "copy" for publications.
Maybe you should consider submitting some of your reports to travel publications.

report of the month.

Thanks for your vote of support.
I was surprised , probably along with allot of other people, that you did not win, as you have published allot of good reports. Most from very exotic and rarely visited places. I particularly liked Somaliland, and the photography of the rock art. These seem to be ancient photograph albums from our "Great x 250 Grandparents"!

Following footprints

I haven't been in Sudan, in Horn of Africa I saw only Ethiopia (stunning country). Next country from this region on my wish list is Eritrea.
My trips depends always from my holidays and avability of plane tickets. And you, how you are chosing your destiantions ?
