Macha Picchu the lost city of the Incas, the journey to and away, through the sacred valley is a joy to behold, with towering mountains all around and hugh boulders that have tumbled down the mountains.
|
Macha Picchu was discovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911 and became one of the wonders of the world. It is now a Unesco world heritage site that is visited by thousands of tourist a year.

Favourite spots: |
The trip to Macha Picchu is a full day trip from Cuzco, costing $170 for the one and a half hour bus to Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley and the one and a half hour train to Aguas Calientes, which follows the Urubamba river. At Aguas Calientes it is a 40 mins vertical walk up to the ruins or a $6 bus ride up, part of the full cost of My trip.

What's really great: |
Word and pictures just can`t do Macha Picchu justice, to explain it in one word it would have to be ORGASMIC. The first view of Macha Picchu is the classic view of the ruins with Wayna Picchu in the background. Our guided tour around the ruins took 2 hour with an English speaking guide, who explained all the different parts of Macha Picchu. In one of the building, about 20 by 10 feet square there were 12 niche`s in the 4 wall and he put his head into one niche and hummed and it can be clearly heard in all the other niche`s, unbelievable.

Sights: |
My train from Aguas Calientes left at 18.03, I read the ticket wrong and turned up at 18.15, thinking My train was 18.30. After much smiling and pleading poverty the guard agreed to only charge Me the differance between My backpacking train and the first class train $14. I should have been charged the full price of $45. On the way back the guard on the train put on a fashion show, cat walking up and down the carriage in locally made clothes, maybe British rail could start this to entertain the passengers. At Ollantayambo My bus had departed, owing to me being an hour late, so shared a taxi with four other travelers, at 20 soles each, about 4 pounds, the taxi driver would have put Michael Schmaker to shame. A day to remember for the rest of my life.

Nice read, but wish you had written more. Can you turn the picture to the right angle? Makes my neck ache to look at them |

Mark, it's nice to see that they still do the fashion shows on board the trains. Did you also have the clown? |
