Miraflores, Lima, Puru

  10 votes
Lima is the large sprawling capital of Peru, with over 8 million inhabitants. It has over 50 districts and Miraflores is the most popular with travelers

Miraflores has a very Europian feel to it with large shopping malls, bars and restaurants, selling all manner of food from high class seafood to mcdonalds!

Favourite spots:

The coastal region on the south pacific sea has a refreshing feel to it, with all sorts of sporting activities, from tennis, golf and surfing, (wish i'd brought my swimming costum). The cliff top is where they do paragliding by running and jumping off the edge, unfortunately the wind was to strong to go flying while I was here (oh well maybe next time). There are a number of statues along the cliff that are of men and women kissing and cuddleing, there is even a love park.

What's really great:
The people are very friendly and helpful and will go out of there way to assist you. My taxi driver from the airport even phoned around several hotels to find one with cheap accommadation for me, after finding the first 2 were full.

Sights:

Huaca Pucllana Archaeologicat site is a Stepped Pyramid that was constructed over 500 years from 200 AD to 700 AD. Only about half of it has been uncoved as it was in private hand up until 1981. The walls of the Pyramid are built from adobe bricks and placed on edge with gaps inbetween for earthquake protection.

Accommodations:

There are plenty of cheap backpacking hotels in Miraflores to choose from, I stayed at the Casa Rodas Hostel 250 Tarapaca, just 300 yard from Huaca Pucllana archaeological site. They do a shared dorm bed for s/30.00 about 6 pounds a night, which included breakfast, hot showers and free internet.
