Visited Greece for 23 days in the winter - WOW! No tourists except in the major places - Acropolis, Olympia etc. Hired a small car and lived in it - it was my dining area, my bedroom and my living room - my little world on wheels! Avoided the cities where possible and just checked out the countryside.

Favourite spots: |
Anywhere in the mountains. There had been heaps of snow and the little dirt mountain roads meander through the most amazing scenery I have ever seen.

|
What's really great: |
The barren-ness of the landscape and the beautiful little villages high up in the mountains away from anywhere. Also the amazing monastries perched on top of the cliffs. The remote quietness was beautiful and it was very safe.

Sights: |
Acropolis was amazing, but I went last thing in the afternoon and there were very few people there. The views over the city are magnificent and my photographs were amazing. The building are also magic if you can avoid the ever-present scaffolding!

Accommodations: |
YHA Youth Hostel in Athens - rooms were very small (I was also sharing with three other Australians), but breakfast was included and it wasn't expensive.

Great Report, seems like an exciting adventure.. I did something similar in the middle of France. Isn't great to have that freedom?:-)
