Fantastic Asian food, an all new shopping experience, 14 million elbows and a hi-tech wonderland! All this is Hong Kong. Read on to learn about how to spend some great days in this fantastic city of extremes!




	Hong Kong from Victoria Peak

On my flight from Europe to Australia I had a 72 hour layover in Hong Kong. A fantastic opportunity to gear up my digital camera equipment and to learn a bit about great Asian culture. The city of Hong Kong lays right at the South China Sea and was long time separate before it became again a part of China. 7 Million people live on such tiny little space. Which make it about 7000 people per square meter. If you have ever been to a busy exhibition you know how it is like to walk around on Honk Kong's streets. People in Hong Kong love to shop. Window shopping is one of their most favorite activities and there is never a shopping street without thousands of people walking around. But Hong Kong has more to over than just shopping. There is great Asian food waiting on every street corner. Try some fish balls from a local street dealer. They taste fantastic, but be aware that you need to have a good stomach :-) The people are very friendly and helpful. Loads of rich people live in Hong Kong which has an average household income of about 200.000$ per year. I met a interesting couple while I was asking for directions. The instantly took me to the place with their car and told me more about the it's all about business in HK.

Favourite spots:




	The famous Hong Kong tram.

There is so much to see in Hong Kong that you will have problems trying to get bored! Of course there is Victoria Peak which is a must go! A tram takes you right to the top, where you can oversee the whole city. Go to Kowloon and shop around on Nathan Road. The most interesting thing I was surprised are the hordes of people going for shopping. So if you are heading for a long trip to Australia like I was, buy your digital gear here. You might be able to save loads of money if you negotiate! Don't take the first price, even if it seems cheap. There is a good chance that you will get a way better deal if you bring cash instead of cards. A place of contrast to the overcrowded streets of Hong Kong the Big Buddha at the Po Lin Monastery. On my last day I went to the airport and locked away my big backpack to take the next bus for a short day trip to the Po Lin Monastery. Absolutely stunning. Take the chance if you find the time. Its absolutely worth it!

What's really great:




	Great asian food markets are everywhere in Hong Kong. Try the fish balls!

I loved the food! It's yammiii everywhere! Fish balls have been my favorite, but there is so much diversity. I loved the sculptures at the Monastery, the friendly people and the cracy buzz of down town Hong Kong.

	The Big Buddha at the Po Lin Monastery

Big Buddha, Bank of China Tower, the Hong Kong trams, Nathan Road and Victoria Peak just to name a few.

Accommodations:




	Downtown Hong Kong on a regular shopping day.

I stayed at a hostel in down town. There is loads of cheap accommodation available in Hong Kong, you just need to know where. Try the hostel booking engine on GLOBOsapiens. You just pay a 10% deposit and you will get a bed waiting for you with detailed descriptions how to find the hostel. It saved me loads of hustle.

Nightlife:




	Great sculptures at the Po Lin Monastery.

There are some night clubs and great bars in the city. A bit pricey though! I was pretty exhausted from walking around all day so I can't tell much about it.
