This is a very out of the way locale in Costa Rica, but well worth it if you are wanting to see an untouched area of wildlife/nature. Be warned that it can get pretty lonely here as backpackers are few are far between and you are very isolated. Still, the scarlett macaws, tucans, alligators, jungles, make is worth while to visit and have some amazing sights. Jimenez is a small town with one main street (there are more of course, but this is the main area). Not a paved road in sight, it makes for a more frontier feeling. The beaches are beautiful as well, however, again, no one is in sight anywhere. It sounds perfect and romantic, but to let you know, it is a little too secluded.

Favourite spots: |
You can rent sea kayaks from Escondito Treks and go by yourself or with a guide. Nice to get out in the canals, and see the wildlife up close and personal. You can really get close to nature here. I was disappointed with other parts of the country with respects to the amount of wildlife, but Osa made up for that BIG TIME!

What's really great: |
Being woken up at 5am by scarlet macaws throwing pinecones on the rooftop (they have an ugly call by the way, but MAN they are beautiful!). Red-lored parakets are by the millions. Macaws are everywhere. It is really overwhelming.

Accommodations: |
A few places. You might want to call ahead of time during the busy season. No names come to mind.

Nightlife: |
None

|
Hangouts: |
Few restaurants here that serve beer but BE CAREFUL OF THE LOCALS. They are friendly, but be careful of who you trust.

|
Other recommendations: |
Many of the out-of-town locals, meaning Americans that live there, are hiding from something back home. That is not a fanatic rumor, but true. Just be careful. It is a very safe place!, but just want to throw that word out there.
