Cahuita is a charming and quiet little village located in the Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica, 4 hrs driving from the capital S. Jose. You can reach it by bus. Like almost this part of Costa Rica, it is inhabited by the descendents of ancient jamaican turtle hunters. So, as you might imagine, the spirit here is absolutely laid-back. Comparing to the Pacific Coast, the caribbean Coast is less developed, and this proves to be a great advantage!

Favourite spots: |
Cahuita National Park: a beatifull park where you can walk trough the rain forest and stop every 5 minutes for an unfogettable swim in beaches that you couldn't even dream of. Don't feed the monkeys. Cahuita Village: it's people, it's restaurants and bars, and it's positive energy make you wanna cry when leaving. Puerto Viejo: another village, some km north of Cahuita, with a larger offer. More places to stay, more shops, more restaurants and more parties! Punta Uva: a beautifull beach that deserves being visited

What's really great: |
The energy. You can't explain it, but you really can feel it! It's amazing the way you feel while staying there. Peace might be the word.
Accommodations: |
El Encanto: 3 bungallows and a house gently ran by a canadian/phillipine budist couple, right in front of the beach. Probably the best breakfast in the world. Has a meditation room and a pavillion in the garden where you can practice yoga, read a book or take a nap! You can fin many other options for every budget.
Hangouts: |
There are 2 or 3 in the center of the village playing reggae music and serving cold beer.
Restaurants: |
Miss Edith's: next to the police station. Real caribbean food (this means very hot) at quite affordable prices. It might take a while to have your dish ready but it's worth.
Cha-Cha-Cha: A brilliant fusion between modern cuisine and local influences. Perfect for a romantic dinner.
Sobre Las Olas: as the name says (Over the Waves) it's right over the beach with some hammocks and tables outside. Italian food and great beef.

Other recommendations: |
Get a boat and go snorkeling in the reef near the cahuita National park.
If you surf try Playa Negra, Puerto Viejo, Punta Uva or Manzanillo
