After about one dull week living under a closed set of clouds I escaped for a daytrip to the closeby mountains. The mountain Jochberg lays just 1 hour south of Munich and peaks at about 1600 meters. Leaving the clouds behind and reaching for the sun.
On our way to the top. Overlooking a see of clouds
After about one hour by car we reached a parking lot at the foot of the mountain. For the moment we are still below or even inside the clouds at a hight of 800 meters.
The hike to the peak takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes. The temperature was about 0 degrees and the trees next to us where powdered in a wonderful white. There was not really a lot of snow it was more the ice left on the track which made it a bit tricky to follow the path.
20 minutes later we passed the foggy clouds and the sun came out. Suddenly the temperature climbed dramatically. It felt like about 8 degrees, even more if you where directly exposed to the sun. The most incredible thing was the stunning view over the see of clouds. Somehow unreal and very beautiful.
Favourite spots:
A sea of clouds as far as you can see!
There are two major lookouts on the way to the top. Those to places should not be missed, and of course the very top of the mountain Jochberg.
Find yourself a cosy place near the peak of the mountain and enjoy your Bavarian bear and sausages :-)
What's really great:
uuuahh.. let the sunshine in!
Once you leave the clouds the sun comes out and you do have the chance for a fantastics view over a see of clouds while the sun tickles your nose.
The hike to the top is somehow exhausting but the feeling of reaching the top will pay you off for all the hard work you have done. A never forgettable view over the other high mountains, and for sure the stunning see of clouds is one of the best memories you will take back to the city.
Sights:
At the top of mountain Jochberg
The incredible view on the top of the mountain. We have been a bit late, and just made it on time for the dawn.
Other recommendations:
Lake "Walchensee" and the Austrian Alps.
There are two lookouts on the way to the top. Don't miss them :-)
hey, what's wrong with you?? Don't you have better things to do than to go for a hike - and to write such a nice report about that :-)) ?? And these wonderful pictures... I hope you'll find more time to travel yourself!!
...the kind of report, on special remote places, we like to read about and now perhaps see ourselves. Wonderfull pictures and well described adventure!
