The island of Ko Samui is beautiful, but a over populated with backpackers galore. There are some secluded areas on the southern shores that you can find, but they are few and far between. It is an incredibly beautiful island however for people of all budgets. It is very low key and at the same time, you can still find the biggest party in the area. Ko Samui does not represent the culture of Thailand whatsoever, but it is still a nice place to stay for a few days.

Favourite spots: |
Chawang Beach. This has everything a backpacker needs. Inexpensive clothes, cheap hostels, other backpackers, internet cafes. But I could only take it in limited doses. Too many people. Still a fun social gathering!

What's really great: |
How incredibly easy everything is. Whatever you want is here. The beaches, the shopping, the food (ahhhhh, Thai food), the parties, the hammocks. It really does have something for everyone.
Accommodations: |
Chawang beach has very inexpensive hostels. During busy season, you may have a tough time finding a place, but you can always drum something up. There are also very expensive hotels as well.
Nightlife: |
Can't remember names, but there is a Regge Club and several others near it. Biggest ones on the island
Restaurants: |
Food galore...ahhhh, so good and so cheap.
Other recommendations: |
Be sure to get a massage. Something like 6 dollars for an hour. They will try to intice you to pay more for something else, but just remember, 1 in 4 have STD's, 1-6 are HIV (prostitutes only fit in this category)
