Kullu-Manali is located in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh ,and it is one of the most famous and beautiful tourist place specially in summer season.main attraction is the Himalayan beauty with river beas flowing through the valley.

beas river along the manali road

Kullu-Manali is hill station located at more than 6200feet,surrounded by the mighty snowy Himalayas with river Beas flowing with singing sound along the side of Kullu-Manali path ,with lush greenery.Manali is quite and calm and beautiful. I travelled this place in april 2003 by bus from Delhi which took me around 13 hrs to reach the Kullu-Manali.We went via Chandigarh ,Ropar,Bilaspur,Sund-ernagar,Mandi. There is not much interesting for me at Kullu and I liked Manali a lot. I booked a room in a resort which is abt 13 kms before Manali which was a BIG MISTAKE as I always have to hire a taxi to and fro to Manali from resort, and also I was not able to have a night look of manali town.It was very chill in the evening and I didnt have sweater or jacket and I had to purchase from Manali itself. I went to Marrhi and it was snowy there and lots of people have gathered there to have a real taste of walking on snow.

manu temple in old manali

This was a nice journey with steep and zig zag roads ,I didnt find much interesting spots at Kullu which is very croudy and noicey, since I was not aware of the difference between Kullu and Manali before there fore I thought that Kullu will be also full of show and greenery ,but it was not like that.Manali is really a paradise with cool and calm atmosphere surrounded by deodar trees ,lots of apple farms and flowers garden on the way to manali and snowy mountains and ofcourse river Bias flowing right in the heart of Manali. My fav spots were : Kothi(12kms from manali),Van vihar which is a mini forset of deodar trees almost making it impossible for sun rays to come ,lots of monkeys there which I enjoyed,Tibet market is there in heart of Manali with a Tibetan Monastery and many things I purchased from there ,Rohtang pass,Marrhi ,Jagatsukh Temple,Naggar Castle,Hidimba Temple is really a marvelous temple ,it is only one of its kind in world,Beas kund,Manu temple in old Manali.

What's really great: |
It was summer season when I went to Manali but it was very chill there , I liked the typical houses of old Manali.Manu temple,Hidimba temple,Tibetan market,Marrhi,Van vihar, and of course the beauty of Manali.People are very soft and co operative here.when I reached my resort it was afternoon ,so I had lunch and then had some rest at span resort which is below the Manali town,in evening I went out of hotel and started walking and was glad to see the old and typical houses of Manali which is made up of wood and stone, and apple farms ,almost each house was surrounded by lush greenery. I had hot tea and some snaks in a local tea shop and had a nice chat with local people, came to know from them that due to excessive cutting of forest and construction work the weather of manali is deteriorating, any way in evening I could feel the clouds passing by me and it was really a great thing which I cannt forget ever. At snow point , it was also a new experience for me to play and enjoy

Whole route from Mandi to manali is very pictureque,I loved the apple trees and farm land at Manali route. When I went to my resort I heard the running water sound of the river Beas and could not stop from going near the river .I touched the water and it was freezing and flow was soo fast that I didnt dare to get into it any more and came back to my room . the peace and tranquility I was looking for ,I could really get at Manali ,evening at Manali is soo cool and calm that I felt that I am in heaven,I forgotten all my sorrow and past for these days when I was at Manali. But I will recomend all people to stay at Manali itself as nothing much in Kullu to see. Also learn to bargain things there.

Accommodations: |
I stayed at span resort ,it is about 13 kms before Manali, the resort is very beautiful and loacted beside the Beas with half of its portion across the river connected by a small bridge. The charegs were high but nice place to stay.Since it is quite away from Manali I will not prefer to stay there ,rather i will take a hotel in heart of manali where rates are nominal. So better to take hotel at Manali town . Hotels like ambassador, holiday inn are there ,one can easily get the rooms and no need to book rooms in advance.
Nightlife: |
I didn't find any club there ,it may be there but I dont have any idea about it.
Hangouts: |
I dont know abt it ,but almost all hotels and resort have their own pubs and bar
Restaurants: |
Span resort, honeymoon inn, holiday inn..BUT IT IS BETTER TO GET HOTEL AT MANALI TOWN ITSELF SO THAT ONE CAN HAVE A WALK OF TOWN LATE IN NIGHT TOO.
Other recommendations: |
In Manali it is better to walk nearby and have a close look of mountain and glacier points ..first time I saw glaciers .
