MOJACAR, THE WHITE VILLAGE

Litlle village on top of a hill overlooking the Mediterranean sea, between the villages GARRUCHA and CARBONERAS. with beaches, and near of CABO DE GATA,


Mojacar travelogue picture
Located at the coast of ALMERIA, has been coveted by many and varied people since antiquity. First population were there 2000 years B.C., and ocupated later with traders such as Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Greeks and Romans. The North Africans Moors established themselves in SPAIN in the VII Century and MOJACAR became part of their heritage, it had the maxim age of splendor depending from “ CALIFATO DE CORDOBA”. On June 10th, 1488, leaders of the region drew a pact of peace between Moors, Christians and Jews. This period lasted until XVIII century, when started the fall of the city because dry seasons,emigrations, civil war, etc.. Today MOJACAR is a touristic center, with hotels, golf courses and many beaches to enjoy and fun. On top of a hill, it’s a pleasure to walk by its white lanes, flowerpots in the balconys and a blue sky all the year. The view from the village is breathtaking.

Balcony, MIRADOR DEL CASTILLO(Highest point of the village), City Door, Jewish quarter. and a few kilometers to the south, you'll find the edge of CABO DE GATA NATURAL PARK, with enormous cliffs .
