You can do much and see too much in just a weekend in Rio.

3 professional women travelers from the Keys traveling for fun but kinda working. Single and freshly single women added a bit of fun to the mix.
Took the overnight flight Friday night from Miami, Fl to Rio and hit the ground running.
Boarded a per-arranged hotel shuttle with about 12 others, with booze for 120.
Was it our personality or our well stocked cooler which made us so popular?
Luckily we had a professional DJ on board so our sleepy eyed early morning arrival turned into an instant party.
Immediately hit the pool upon check in and the fun just really kept going from there. Don't worry, the story has some class, as it is the only way I travel!

Favourite spots: |
The local surf spot near the Sheraton was really great, but be prepared to do some slippery rock climbing to get a better look at the surfers.
Bar Lagoa was a great upscale spot with really fantastic steaks and seafoods. Super crowded local spot away from the beach areas.
No trip to Rio is complete without a trip to Impanema. You have to eat at Garota, and enjoy channeling the writer of The Song ( The Girl from Impanema). Fresh palmittos there in a fantastically hot and spicy salad.

Even the edge of the favelas had charm

Really friendly people all over Rio, and although we received many travel warnings, we stuck to popular places and non-pedestrian travel and felt very safe.
Like most of the tourist area, a few steps in either direction can be of questionable beauty and safety, with the favelas in and around Rio. For me, seeing the favelas was a must for my profession though.

Sights: |
Corcovado and the Christ Statue...one of the modern 7 Wonders of the World was breathtaking. Highly recommend private car over the bus though. Especially in the hotter months. Lots of great look out spots along the narrow mountain roads you would miss with a bus, and roadside food and drink stands!
Up near the Christ Statue is a great bar, wines, foods, and lots of shade. We spent more time there out of the sun and enjoying ice cream than at the top!
Sugarloaf Mountain was just too touristy for me, but we found a great roadside and waterside area to stop, enjoy the breeze and the view of the mountain and cable cars.

cachaca served at happy hour

Balcony Bar- for local color and by color, I mean hookers. And really great looking men. And by looking I mean shopping for hookers.
The bar at the Sheraton had a fantastic happy hour complete with Argentine wines and cachaca served traditionally . I preferred the Malbec! The piano player was great and the sunset view rivaled the best I have seen in Key West.
