Sydney is a city of the world. It's defenitely the unofficial capital of Australia. For many people their trip to Australia starts here. And it's a good place for it.

Favourite spots: |
Botanical Gardens. When you sit down here on a beautiful day, you're not aware of the big city your in. A good way to spend your day.

|
What's really great: |
The people were very helpful. Just hold a map in your hand and several people will offer to help you find your way. I didn't expect that in such a large city. Sydney is not as unpersonal as you might expect.

|
Sights: |
Opera House, Darling Harbour, Harbour Bridge, The Rocks...all the touristy places, but there defenitely worth the visit.
|
|
Accommodations: |
Most of the backpacker places in Kings Cross are good to stay at. Especially if you started travelling for the first time. You'll meet lots of people there.
If you'd rather stay a little further away from busy and loud Kings Cross, stay at Forbes Terrace. Very close to the Cross, but really quiet.

|
Nightlife: |
Scubar, meetingplace for backpackers
|
|
Other recommendations: |
Go to Kings Cross. It's really not as dangerous there. Just walked aroud confident and you'll find cheap places to eat and friendly people.
Bondi beach. Have to have been there. On a beautiful day it's a great place to spend your day at.
Take a ferry to one of the suburbs. It's wonderful on the water and you'll see other parts of Sydney.
Paddy's Markets, browse through whatever you can think of.
