A little slice of Euorpe in the DR

Cabarete is home of some the best windsurfing in the world. I was there with my friend Chris in 2004 for the championships that take place at the end of June.

It is only one block in length, but is worth a visit. Cabarete is a small little beach town that is visited mostly by Europeans. You can spend your day sipping a Cuba Libre ,soaking in the sun, lying on the chair that you rented from one of the beach vendors. They will happy to refill that Cuba Libre, or maybe an ice cold Presidente. Truth is they will get you what ever you need for the price. I had my new friend purchase a bag of ice and a bottle of Coke while I poured Brugal from a bottle I bought earlier. Then I propsitioned my friend to find me a CD of some good Dominican music. A few minutes later he returned with a great CD that capped off my instant beach party. I could have walked and puchased my CD for a bit cheaper, but I'm on vaction! You could also spend the day practicing your windsurfing skills. Whatever you chose to do during the day, the real fun begins, as always when the sun goes down. There are restaurants and bars spilling out on to the large beach. My friend Chris and I showered up and headed for dinner at one of them. On the way we met two cute Dominican girls who led us to a great little restaurant whose name escapes me. We asked them to join us and they agreed. Eating on the sand of the beach under the stars and the light of tiki torches really made for a great atmosphere. After the restaurants finish serving dinner for the night, they tade in the tables for music and dancing. An all night beach party ensues, a great night!

Favourite spots:
Just lying on the beach and taking in the sites. It is very reminiscent of Europe, maybe because they make up the majority of visitors.

What's really great:
There are vendors who sell a delicious little candy. It is a like a small candied apple, altough there is no apple. Instead there is coconut inside. Does anyone know what they are called?

Accommodations:
Cita del Sol-
I have stayed here a few times and have never been disappointed. They offer one and two bedroom suites for approximately 40-60, depending if you want airconditioner or not. The rooms are clean and they have a full kitchen. The rooms also look over a beautiful garden and pool. The have a big grass hut with a bar and some food near the back of the pool area. Try the pizzas, they are suprisingly good.

Restaurants:
I could not remember any of the Restaurants names, but they are all pretty good. They are the place to be when the sun goes down. Like I mentioned before they really know how to set the mood for a great meal. They are also run very well with very accomadating staff. Dont be surprised if you a given a few shots of Mamajuana as a sign of gratitude for your bussiness when your meal is finished.
