If you want a pleasant laidback intermezzo on your Mexican (Oaxaca) journey: visit the hippie-village of Zipolite near Puerto Angel on the Pacific side. Lovely retreat after the Monte Alban-heat...
Zipolite
Hangloose hammock village. Don't be surpised when old french hippies run around naked. Nothing much to do, but that should be exactly you pupose here. Therfore fun to stay a couple of days, on your trip through the beautiful province of Oaxaca.
One thing: beware of the lethal undertow! [and be cautious.. cause crime is reported regularly...] For info see: http://www.tomzap.com/zipolite.html [picture Zipolite also taken from that website]
Favourite spots:
Brisas Marina
Forget Acapulco, skip definately Puerto Escondido, think Puerto Angel and finally go: Zipolite!
What's really great:
Just doing nothing: hammock time and drinking cubalibres!
Accommodations:
Shambhala
I stayed in 1998 in:
Posada Brisas Marina (958) 584-3193. Bathrooms, balconies with hammocks. Owner, Daniel, is American and speaks English. US$8-20/night. brisamarina@Prodigy.net.mx (10/02)
but I don't know how it's today, cause it's been rebuilt after a devastating fire in 2001.
Shambhala seems another good option: http://www.cepulihtoa.com [picture Shambhala taken from that website]
Restaurants:
Lo Cosmico - restaurant and cabaņas. admin@locosmico.com. The restaurant serves crepes and is recommended. (www.tomzap.com)
