Archipelago of limestone islands with steep cliffs, paradise beaches and blue lagoons. Good island hopping, snorkling and diving opportunities. Limited tourism by backpackers in El Nido village and exclusive resorts on some of the apx. 50 islands.
Bacuit Archipelago, Northern Palawan
Ha Long Bay thanks it's fame to 007. Krabi and Phuket (before the disaster) are known and touristic hotspots.
Palawan is the rising star... when you're looking for mysterious limestone cliffs, paradise white beaches, beautiful turqois waters and limited tourism this is your place to be.
You can reach El Nido, the main entrance to the Bacuit Archipelago, by small plane from Puerto Princesa or Manila (direct or via Busuanga Island).
One of the early editions of the TV-show "Expedition Robinson'' is said to have been located on Inabuyatan Island.
Favourite spots:
Simisu Island
Snorkeling off Simisu Island
Big and Small Lagoon, Miniloc Island
What's really great:
White Tip Reef Shark
On a 'regular' island hopping tour (paid by our resort), I asked the designated bangka boatman for something 'extra' special on this already incredible day. He said he could take me to his "private" sharkspot for an additional 200 pesos (U$ 3.5)...
Half an hour later we were snorkeling off Pangalusian island in very shallow water with White Tip Reef Sharks...absolutely amazing!
