Thank you very much for your nice words:) I loved your recent photos too - USA is currently out of my reach but if I were to go there I would choose the national parks mentioned by you - they are so beautiful and I love hiking.
Best wishes
Irene:)

Ankara and Ankara kalesi (castle)
The region's vibrant history can be traced back to the Bronze Age Hatti civilization, which was succeeded in the 2nd millennium BC by the Hittites, in the 10th century BC by the Phrygians, and later by the Lydians, Persians, Macedonians, Galatians, Romans, Byzantines, and Turks (Seljuk Empire then Ottoman Empire and then Turkey).
The oldest settlements in and around the city center of Ankara belong to the Hatti civilization which lived during the Bronze Age. Artifacts discovered in the city have revealed that the Hittites called Ankara with the name Ankuwash prior to 1200 BC.[3][4] The city significantly grew in size and importance under the Phrygians starting from around 1000 BC, experiencing a large expansion following the mass migration from Gordion, the capital of Phrygia, after an earthquake which severely damaged that city in antiquity. In Phrygian tradition, King Midas was venerated as the founder of Ancyra, but Pausanias mentions that the city

dear Eire, your albums are great, i love the last one about the rocky canyon , it's so diverse , colourful, and just interesting , i was whispering 'wow' almost on every photo in slideshow. this is definetely a point no. one for my visit in USA, ( if i ever go, that means)
PS. other members are very lucky that you have few months break before uploading next album, otherwise they would miss they chance to have AOM forever, Yours just would be on top of the list every month. :) martin

Eire,
Your US series of pictures were stunning and put together in an album is simply delightful.
I really enjoy looking at the shots from Utah and off course the Grand Canyon. It looks like you had perfect weather.
All the best

Hi Eire
Thanks so much for this great album. You certainly ave some impressive nat. parks.
The one of rock picteures reminds me of a cave in the Matopos area of Zimbabwe. I think there's a photo among the ones of Zimbabwe that I still have to upload some time.
Cheers

Thanks for rating my Krumlov report, that motivates me to write more, i'm a very lazy writer. I must still congratulate you for your "Yaxa" AoM and others for your awards in July when my network was down. Yaxa was a very suitable award because the temple arrangement of "Chicken" ( Chichén Itzá, Mexico) was recognised as one of the 7 new world wonders by internet users and scholars.
Congratulations also for reaching the top 20 members page recently!!!
