Marianne,
Thanks for your complement on my Yaxha slideshow. I am still sorting through my pictures of Yaxchillan, Bonampak and Palenque - the Mayan ruins are so wonderful.
I have been to Dublin, although it has been 30 years now. I am pleased to see that it has not lost its charm! My Mother, although born in Hartlepool, has family in Cork. It is actually how I got my name. She was expecting another son, had not picked a name for a girl, went into labor, waited for the mailman who was coming down the street. By the time she got to the hospital, mail still in her hand, she was ready to deliver. They announced I was a girl, she asked for her mail back because she hadn't really had time to go through it, and she took my name from the stamp on an envelope from her Aunt Sioban. I have always been thankful that Aunt Sioban didn't live in Yugoslovia - Eire is so much easier to spell!

Zimbabwe

Marianne,
Thanks for reading my report on Zimbabwe, it was a bit of a cheat and I was only at Vic Falls, but it is an astonising place and I only hope their problems could end soon. So that they can reap the benefit of tourism.
All the best

Trinity College Dining Hall
Posted: 2007-06-26 11:45 PM
Yes Marianne,
It is indeed the dining hall. You are probably aware (I note your consummate research on Lecky etc.) that it is something of a Phoenix.
see

It fell down twice and was burned once!!
kind regards

Dublin's Tallest
Posted: 2007-06-26 11:37 PM
Hi Marianne
The tallest building is Liberty Hall and as you note it dates from the sixties when Ireland had a mini-boom economically. It stands on the site of the original Liberty Hall where james Connolly had the head-quarters of The Citizen Army in the period before the 1916 rising.
It exceeds the height of the Georges Quay complex on the opposite side of the Liffey by on 0.4meters but the surrounding lower buildings cloak the height of that complex.
Kind regards
hugh
