thank you for your appreciation of my history lessons. as you might guess, i am a frustrated history teacher who ended up in computer image analysis. better living, far less satisfying. sometimes i learn more after i get home from a trip than before i left despite preparations. have a good week. n.

Mostar
Posted: 2010-09-17 12:00 PM
Hi Petra,
I really enjoyed Mostar! The bridge looked magnificent and special.
I was shocked, very shocked indeed, to find out that people in Mostar did not believe that peace is going to last. I could not understand this negativity and pessimism. I did witness extremely disturbing scenes in Bosnia and in Herzegovina, which would confirm that the population did not seem to learn the horrific lesson of war. I was so confused that I asked the questions in Croatia. The Croats told me that in Croatia no-one is thinking about going to war and they believed that peace was going to hold. They tried to put a finger on what I heard in Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to them, the problem in BiH was the different ethnic and religious groups were more mixed than in Croatia and therefore it was difficult to deal with the differences.
I am still a little shocked, though...
Thank you for the comments and the stars for the report!

hi, petra - thanks for following up on my last goreme pictures and especially the beginning of dresden - we truly enjoyed our trip to germany more than we could have ever expected. if we had only one city we have visted to which we could return it might well be berlin.
we couldn't believe the ingenuity of the park - i must have five or six images on my disk. and so nice that it was crowded. dresden must be the perfect city for a foreign tourist, everything so convenient, so much both in and outside of the prime tourist areas. and we ate very well in dresden as well.
over time i look forward to visiting your cities and towns we will never get to but can dream about. n.

I had to leave so much out!

Petra, thank you for your praise - I don't feel worthy! I had to leave so much out and I had a hard time trying to narrow down what to include! If I were taking the trail, I would want a sense of what that is like but that eliminates the wonder of the ruins themselves which are unexcavated but still amazing.
I don't know if I'll ever do anything that challenging again. At 53 (almost), I don't think I have many more 6 day treks left in me!

Petra,
You know it was kind of funny seeing them getting confused by people who were running across the road. It is amaizing what can amuse sometimes.
Thanks for stopping by.
