Hi Tony,
Posted: 2009-03-10 10:08 AM
the road is dangerous, very small, the verge isn't secured against the river, deep down in the valley, and it is heavily used. It serves the hinterland, all necessary products, even animals, are brought in by trucks. But the drivers are very calm and concentrated, when compared to those in India. The trucks are painted and adorned with pictures of animals and birds, even scenes from home.
To drive this road is a special experience.
Take care.

for your comment on my picture "Traffic Jam". It rearly was rough, but my driver was perfect. All the trucks are decorated differently and look quite colorfull in this rocky landscape.

Cork, Cork

Hi Tony,
I really enjoyed Cork. And I have not seen many pictures from the city. I have more to upload, but I am easing the members in... I do not want to overwhelm everyone with a big upload.
Thanks for your stars.
Kindest regards
Krys

Hi,
Yes, it is a ferry boat, but the one that is really in use is a litttle bit bigger and with a roof.

Mallam cove

Dead right , no water, sounds like the ancient mariner, but it would seem that some millions of years ago this water fall could have been compared with Niagara.
See you

I know I replied a very short time ago, but had not read your comment on the trainee drivers, very witty but they should not do it when the train is in the station,
wait till they get a bit nearer some of our polititions. then again it would probably do more good on my garden.

Santillana del Mar
Posted: 2009-02-28 04:13 AM
Toni, there are several Caminos (Ways). The most frequented is the French one, which enters Spain through the Pyrenees starting in Saint Jean Pied de Port, and follows Navarra, La Rioja (good wine there!) and Castilla, until Galicia.
There is even an English Way, because in the past English pilgrims came to Santiago (Saint James) in boats from Plymouth, Southampton or Truro to La Coruña and El Ferrol, to start the pilgrimage.
Santillana del Mar is a lovely town close to our Altamira caves (with troglodyte paintings). It is in the Camino del Norte (Northern Way), following the Cantabric coast. It is not as popular as the French Way, but very scenic because on your right side you have the Cantabric Sea and on the left side there is the exuberant the nature of the so called “Green Spain”, with small villages along the way where the pilgrims are offered shelter for free to sleep.
I hope that you will make the Camino in the future…
Regards
Jorge
