It is said in Spain 'Si no has ido a Granada, no has visto nada' (if you have not travelled to Granada, you have not seen anything). It is undoubtedly, one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
|
Granada is located in Andalusia region, southern Spain. Granada is the inspiration city, many artists came and come here to sing, to write or to see Granada's wonder Alhambra. Ernest Hemingway wrote 'tales about the Alhambra', Washington Irving said 'It is impossible not to fall in love when you see the Alhambra from San Nicolás square' and Francisco de Icaza told to a woman who did not want to give money to a poor blind: 'give him some money, because there is nothing like the pity of being blind in Granada'. Albaycín, Sacromonte, Realejo... are moorish neighbourghoods with an exceptional charming. Spain's soul is hidden in these streets. Renacentist, baroque, modern... and moorish of course, it is Granada, a mixture of cultures, styles and people. Granada was an important city in the middle age, it was the Spanish Costantinopla and the European Damascus.

Favourite spots: |
It is impossible to travel to Granada without visiting the Alhambra Palace and Generalife. What can we say about the Alhambra? it is a wonder, unique in the world. World Human Heritage site, nominated to be one of the new seven wonders... if you have not visited it, it is difficult to imagine. Next visit in the city: Cathedral, Albaycín, Sacromonte, Gran Vía, Realejo... when you are walking and seeing these places you understand very well why Granada is the Spanish jewel. Flamenco caves where gypsies are singing and dancing, 'Cármenes' or Granada's typical homes, panoramic views of the city and Sierra Nevada from El Realejo or El Sacromonte, the Royal Chapel near the Cathedral (where Catholic kings are buried)...

San Nicolás square is a magician place in Granada. Bill Clinton said 'I have not ever seen most beautiful dusk' when he visited San Nicolás square. Paseo de los Tristes and Carrera del Darro are two fantastic streets near the Darro river. Shops, restaurants, discos, arabic baths, monuments... live near the Alhambra palace, which is the top of the hill.

|
Accommodations: |
In Granada you can find luxury hotels, as Alhambra Palace Hotel (www.h-alhambrapalace.es), Hotel Los Nazaríes... but you also can find cheaper hotels in the center. It is well known that Spain has cheap hotels with good services.

Granada's streets at night

|
Nightlife in Granada is famous in Spain. Thousands of students go out to parties every night. It has a wild nightlife, plenty of discos and street spectacles... indispensable going out to drink and taste the Spanish night. It is impressive the views from the Alhambra at night in some of these pubs and bars.

|
Restaurants: |
Andalusian and the rest of Spanish cuisine have in Granada an exceptional place to eat. Tapas are indispensable here. Joking, it is said that 'tapear' (to eat tapas) and to have siesta, are the two 'national sport' in Spain, so, if you come here, you can go to eat tapas and then, go to have siesta to recover force to the night.

Other recommendations: |
Sierra Nevada is a modern ski resort near Granada, about 25 from Granada, there, you can ski and practise snow sports all the year. An important thing to consider is the weather of Granada. It never rains at summer and it is not usually to rain at spring and auntumn. Temperatures are cold at winter (10º-15º) and very hot at summer (30º-35º), at Spring and autunm the weather is warm (20º-25º).
