We flew with Air Asia from Kota Kinabalul to Miri. The flight was good, and so were the views!
Miri is the 2nd largest city in Sarawak and has a population of 300,000 people with a mixture of Chinese and indigineous tribes.

Miri is Sarawak and Malaysia’s first Oil producing area, with the finding of Oil first officially recorded in 1882.
The locals had been using Oil long before, collecting it for medicinal use, for waterproofing of boats and for lighting oil lamps. It was not until 1910 when the first oil company moved in to exploit its wealth
Miri looks to be quite a rich city, we noticed that quite a few of the homes were very large. We did find there wasn't a lot to see and do here, and probably one day is enough.
We hired a car from the Airport which they let us keep for longer for the same price, as our plane was delayed. We couldn't complain about that service!

Favourite spots: |
This may seem a silly favorite spot, but I find cemeteries very interesting. Here, in Miri, is a huge Chinese one, so large, it was easily seen from the Plane window. The headstones on lots were beautiful.
Also, if you head to the older part of Mir, there is actually another cemetery located in the centre of a divided road.

What's really great: |
What I liked? Not a lot really! Probably our Hotel!
As for sights, The Grand Old Lady is probably not what you expect!..........
It is Miri's NO 1 OIL WELL........
In the 1800s, Miri was an unknown fishing village of a few families trading occasionally with passing ships, then oil was discovered and Miri became the first oil town in Malaysia and was put on the road to progress! Quote..........the first cable-tool oil well in the country, a 'mother' who milked a poor country to a prosperous nation. She is located on top of Canadian Hill, also located here is a Museum and Canada Hill has nice views over the city of Miri.

Sights: |
Miri City Fan is a very nice park area situated in Miri. If you can view it from the air, then you will see that it is in the shape of a fan. T
There is a variety of theme gardens, including a Botanical Garden and an Islamic Garden. The Miri City Library, a Public Swimming Pool, and a large Amphitheatre where concerts are frequently held are nearby.
This park is a popular area with the locals, and we thought, one of the nicer spots in Miri.

Miri Marriott Resort & Spa.......
In a tranquil garden setting overlooking the ocean.
Our room was large, with a large king size bed and a balcony overlooking the beautiful gardens. A nice spot to enjoy a caffiene break. The pool area was huge and lovely. Breakfast was a buffet with an incredible choice of food. We had dinner here as well, both were excellent. The service here was excellent in every possible way. Definitely would recommend this Hotel
