SAFARI at KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

Mpumalanga travelogue picture
From Johannesburg it takes an 1,5H trip by plane to Skukutza airport (now planes are flying to the new Mpulanga international airport!) where your personal ranger will meet and drive you to your private lodge inside Kruger National Park. This park is one of the world's great national parks. It is home to an unparalleled diversity of wildlife and is maintained by one of the world's most sophisticated management systems. Five rivers cross the park from west to east. There are 300 different types of trees, 49 species of fish, 33 types of amphibian, 114 different reptilian species, 507 species of birds and 147 species of mammals in the park. I stayed at ULUSABA

Favourite spots:

Safari tours that usually take place early in the mornings and late in the evenings and last 4 hours. After two hours of 'hunting' your ranger and his tracker stop and you are allowed to step out of the jeep right to the wilderness to enjoy a nice evening cocktail or morning breakfast. But beware of wild animals that can pass you nearby without notice!

What's really great:

It's four o'clock in the morning and someone is knocking on the door:Wake-up, it's time to go. YES, the so long awaited journey is about to start in the darkness: my very first SAFARI. Here I come beware BIG FIVE, I will get you all

Usually in one 4 hours safari drive, it's not obvious you will see any animals. There are days that you can see many and others that you just see one or maybe two if you are lucky! This Kruger Park is very large and all animals are used to move around - so some days you do a lot of search to locate these animals - and what makes it even hard, they hide extremely well. It is not surprising that you may sit in your open roof jeep and an animal is just a meter away from you HIDDEN IN THE GREEN...
........................................-..
Animals do not get any pet names even if rangers get to reconize them. There is one exception this elephant - it was named Stumpi because he had only half of his tail remaining!
