San Juan del Sur is locate just north of Costa Rica. It is a fun little beach town and very inexpensive (the whole country is). This is a mecca for surfers although there isn't surfing right on the beach in San Juan del Sur. The town itself is poor and run down but it does have some nice places to eat, drink and play. There are also some fun excursions to see giant turtles and other wildlife while here.

Favourite spots: |
There is a beach two coves north of San Juan del Sur. Go to the Iguana Bar on the beach...they run trips up there. You can stay at the only hotel/hostel there. The waves here are pretty good size and especially if you walk to a cove just south of the main beach, you can hit some major breaks.

What's really great: |
The prices, the beach (the one two coves north), and the slow pace of a beach town. Things are very low key here.

|
Accommodations: |
Lots of cheap cheap hotels. Isabella house has a monkey that will make you cry. Been trapped up for seemingly years, the little guy goes crazy inside his cage. For nicer hotels, go on the roadway that parellel's beach.

Hangouts: |
Lots of bars on the beach and some can get croweded enough at night to some dancing.

|
Restaurants: |
Lots of restaurants here. All price ranges. For real cheap food, check out the covered food market in the middle of town.
