Phitsanulok once served as the capital of Thailand for 25 years. It is a fairly lively city and a good place to stay if you want to visit the lower north of the country. It is a good base to make a visit to Sukhothai.
Traditional dancing at temple
Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat - this contains the Chinnarat Buddha. This huge, and much copied image, is second only to The Emerald Buddha in Bangkok.
What's really great:
The Chinnarat Buddha, the city is easy to walk around and there are many good, cheap places to eat!
Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat.
Bus journey to Sukhothai.
Lithai Guest House in the Lithai Building on Thanon Phayalithai. Clean, cheap and the TV has an English speaking channel!
Tui Phochana close to the Lithai building on Thanon Phayalithai.
Lots of other cheap restaurants close by.
