Hi folks, I became an early pensioner in 2015 and now have a 50m² apartment in München-Laim with sunny balcony. This is the first time in my life that I am living alone. Now enjoy my hobbies!

Danke Rudi

rudi, thanks for your nice letters, I apppreciate them in this cold country.
I will check the webs next month, in Spain. In Iturup I stayed 3 days in KURILKS, at 4 kilometres from the port. It is the most important town, well, village, with about 7000 PAX, most of them soldiers.
I have pictures of Kurilks village, but I wait until this destination is in Globo to include them in my pictures section. Other possibility is to put them under Sakhalin, because Kurils islands belong to Sakhalin Oblast.
Auf wieder Sehen.
(the 4th of february 2006 I will take a Lufthanssa plane in Frankfurt to Lima. As you know, the Maxim Gorki cruise is administrated by a German company. If you have time we can take a beer in Frankfurt...!).

Re: Very "Hot" Ice Pictures

Hi Rudi,

Thanks for your comments. I am also having some problems with the slideshows. When uploading a photo the text for the description of the caption is not supposed to incllude the cite (also available afterwards in the tilte area) but for the slideshows including photos from diferent areas...

Anyway, my favourite of the album is also Moreno 09 :-)

Gossip - picture rating-postbox

Posted: 2005-12-14 07:19 AM
Dear Rudi
I very much appreciate the encouragement you gave me since I joined but I see you think I am over generous with stars in a manner that could dammage the site.

Whenever you have any such thought please send me a post-box message and I will immediately explain my rationale. I frequently set it out in the member's guestbook.

If the rating is to be according to strait jacket rules, why bother to allow us rate the pictures at all? Just one official rating by the laws of statistics would achieve the same result more economically.

Sympathy is not the only emotion that may cause higher than the officially intuitive score. The identification with the emotions , memories, insights evoked by the picture are relevant.

Two of my pictures have been upgraded to 5 star. Do you know how this happened?

destination guides

Posted: 2005-12-14 04:46 AM
Rudi,

I'd like to hear your opinion about the destination guides.

Should these be written in a neutral voice? In other words avoiding the word 'I'?

In my opinion this is desirable because they are general introductions to the place.
Reports can either be written in the 'I form', in which case they show personal experience, but equally they can be written in a more neutral form (what I did in my Amsterdam report). This is the writer's choice.

Would it be a good idea if we had in the box on the lef, the blue one with: home and upload an extra category: examples of reports and destinations. This could be a link to a well-written report or destination guide.

Not acceptable

Posted: 2005-12-13 07:51 AM
Rudi
I know that Marianne had meant her message in my guestbook about you to be sent privately. Even so, I can't ignore it. Your claimed justification that some of my 5*s detract in some way from the site's top ones is absurd.
Visitors will click on pictures if that's what they want, in which case they won't see one of mine in the top 200. I accept that all of the ones they will see are better than any of mine. I regret that I haven't yet done one of that quality and I'll try to work on it. However, since these visitors won't see any of mine, what harm can they do to the site? I find the idea that they should be graded as very good but not reach the top perfectly reasonable.

rest and relief

Posted: 2005-12-13 04:45 AM
Rudi,

I graded your picture ****.: fairly good composition, the resting person in the right corner attracts my attention immediately. He shows: rest, but I could find nowhere: relief. It would have been nice if more of the banana tree would have been visible.

The picture looks quite peaceful to me. Everyone is relaxed. The mountain is not too forbidding. Relief is probably only in your mind because you know what happened before this scene. Your sub title: 'Rest and wash after a 4 day hike in the mountains!--!!'
tells more or less what happened before, but that need not have been strenuous. No wash for four days may sound horrible to some, but not to me. (Lots of experience with that)

Hi Rudi,

Thanks for reading and rating. I agree Pubs and clubs, especially in thirs world countries are not very useful.

I can highly recommend Indonesia as a holiday destination. We were there quite often, always long holiday, but still haven't seen everything.

Thanks: Amsterdam

Hi Rudi,

Thanks for reading my Amsterdam report. I don't quite understand when you said: 'Staff should fix the Euro symbol now!'because the euo sign is shown correctly.

The only thing I don't understand is why the lonks are not clickable? In other reports they are.

Spasibo Rudi!

Posted: 2005-12-08 09:48 PM
thanks Rudi for your help.
I will read the islands page upon my return to Spain. These Russian computers are from Breznev times, old and with the letters in different places.
Still waiting for my boat to Vladivostok in pleasant Kurilsk, in the island of Iturup. I drink vodka every day to keep my body hot, and eat 300 grams of red caviar twice a day!
Hasta la vista amigo.
